of 1893. This pivotal event in architectural history left a lasting impression on young Emery Roth.

His talent is showcased in his greatest triumphs which include the Ritz Tower (1925), the Beresford (1929), the Eldorado (1931), the Normandy (1940) and the San Remo (1930). The Ritz Tower was the first high-rise residential building in New York, and at the time of its completion, the tallest structure in the world. His most successful creation, The Benjamin (1927, formerly The Beverly), is the Emery Roth masterpiece that inspired Georgia O’Keefe’s famous painting, New York Night (1929). The Benjamin, with its silhouette and details, exhibits an abundance of vitality and sumptuous warmth. With its picturesque profile, the building features Romanesque arcades, Gothic-style rose windows and terra-cotta birds peering from shallow niches.
